Welcome to Indirock

Delighted to meet you.

Please do not print out this form – it needs to be completed online.

Any questions? We’re here to help. But seriously, please do not print out this form.

Before signing our waiver, please watch our safety video here.

“The British Mountaineering Council recognises that climbing and mountaineering are activities with a danger of personal injury or death. Participants in these activities should be aware of and accept these risks and be responsible for their own actions and involvement.”

Bouldering is a form of free climbing. It is unaccompanied climbing without ropes, up to a height of 4.5m indoors. Bouldering is hazardous, it involves climbing to height and there is no fall protection. Bouldering involves both falls from height to ground and the potential of injury from above. Despite the matting, a fall from height carries risk of severe injury.

Adult climbing waiver (unsupervised)

Conditions of use

Our duty of care:

Below we’ve set out some rules designed to keep you and those around you as safe as reasonably possible. These aren’t intended to limit your fun! They’re just an important duty of care that we (Indirock) owe to you (the customer) by law. As such they are non-negotiable and if you are not prepared to abide by them then the staff must politely ask you to leave.

Need to know:

Before you climb without supervision and use the training aids at Indirock, the centre expects you to fully understand the dangers involved with bouldering and use of our equipment and accept the risks involved.

When registering with us you are confirming that you are prepared to abide by the rules and that you understand the risks involved in your participation.

Before you climb with us for the first time, you will need to pass safety questions at reception to be approved by Indirock to climb unsupervised.

If you are new to bouldering, you must also receive an induction in the safe use of our facility by a member of Indirock staff before climbing with us for the first time.

Any adult who has not registered, signed a waiver and passed our safety questions may not climb at Indirock, with or without supervision.

Staff will provide whatever help and advice they can, but instruction will only be provided where it has been booked and paid for in advance.

You must not assume that Indirock’s staff are supervising you and your safety.

If you are not confident in the use of any of the facility, then do not attempt to use it.

Your commitment:

• You understand that the matting does not remove the risk of injury.

• Downclimb whenever possible. If this is not possible, use a controlled, planned drop.

• Injuries can still occur even after a controlled planned drop but are most likely after an uncontrolled fall.

• You should do your utmost to avoid the risk of uncontrolled falls.

• Pay attention to how you will land and always assess the risk of each climb that you undertake.

• It is your responsibility to ensure that you can climb down and land safely; don’t climb into a situation that you cannot get back down from.

• Be aware of what is happening above and around you and never climb directly above or below another climber.

• Maintain at least 2 metres distance from other climbers to reduce the chance of collisions.

• Keep fall zones clear (these may be wide areas, think about your location).

• Remove anything from pockets that could hurt you when landing.

• Once you’ve finished an attempt, move back to allow other climbers to climb.

• There is a risk that holds can spin or break. Please report any loose or damaged holds to a member of staff straight away.

• If you see any problems with the walls, equipment or other climbers’ behaviour please report it to a member of staff immediately.

• You must only climb on the surfaces provided - the climbing walls and training aids.

• In parts of the facility, overhead duct and pipe work will be close to you as you climb the wall. Please be aware of this and under no circumstances grab or fall onto this equipment.

• No running, loitering, or lounging on the matting. There are designated benches or sitting areas provided.

• Keep the mat free of any obstructions like bags, clothing, bottles, shoes etc. Please leave your belongings in lockers provided or at the edges of the matting.

• No food or drink in the climbing zones at any time, and no smoking/vaping in the centre.

• No climbing under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

• Any equipment either rented from Indirock or brought in by you is used at your own risk.

• You must wear climbing shoes to climb, unless you have a good reason for alternative footwear. You must never climb barefoot.

• You agree not to be topless while using our facility. It doesn’t matter how hot you get, please drink water and keep an appropriate level of clothing on.

• You agree not to use products which may leave unpleasant residues for others, such as “gym tacky”. You may only use climbing chalk in our venue - either liquid or in chalk balls, no loose chalk.

• You agree to comply with all instructions as posted about the facility or otherwise communicated to you.

• Sign in at reception on each visit before you climb.

• You understand we may ask to see ID for proof of age.

• Be aware of other climbers around you and how your actions will affect them.

• Be friendly and inclusive with all your fellow climbers, being conscious of how your actions could affect how welcome others feel at Indirock.

• You understand that failure to abide by our centre rules will lead you to receive yellow and then red cards as part of our disciplinary procedure, which may lead you to being expelled from Indirock.
